PROTECTING THE CROWN JEWELS SEMINAR - SPRING 2012
Channel Islands Hosts Another Successful Seminar!
79 NCMS members and non-members gatherered at the Courtyard Marriott on April 5 for another "Protection the Crown Jewels" Spring Seminar. Feedback from attendees indicated that the program was outstanding and informative.
By popular request, we've posted the two presentations by nationally known speaker deedee collins: "Workplace Violence Tools for the Security Professional" and "360 Security Management", as well as a handout from Barry Sax, DOD Administrative Judge (retired) on "The DoD Security Clearance Process"
Plans are in progress for another Fall Seminar as well. If you have speaker or topic suggestions that weren't already submitted on the Seminar Critique form, please contact Cheryl Pelton at cpelton6@gmail.com to let her know. If hope that you'll all plan to join us at our next event and really appreciate all your support for our past seminars.

More Phone Cards Sent to Deployed Troops
Our Chapter has again been very generous with donations of telephone cards for the troops. These cards are purchased and sent as a thank you to our dinner and seminar speakers. This is a tremendous boost to our well-deserving troops and we've just purchased $150 worth of cards in honor of our three member speakers at our November 18, 2010, meeting as well as our five guest speakers at our February 23, 2011.
PROTECTING THE CROWN JEWELS SEMINAR - SPRING 2011
Our February 23, 2011 Protecting the Crown Jewels Seminar in Oxnard was an extraordinary success with 83 registered attendees. What was especially exciting was that half of them had never heard the DICE MAN Ray Semko before! Other excellent speakers included: Richard Trust and Michael Hartman from the The Aerospace Corporation on "Truth and Consequences of Export Control", Richard Haidle with a FBI Counterintelligence Update, and David Nardoni from General Dynamics - AIS on "Computer and Cyber Crime/Forensics. "Many of our registrants also were first-time attendees, so it was a great time for our Chapter to shine! Many membership applications were taken from the handout table and we took forward to them joining NCMS.
Once again a $250 gift card Grand Prize was donated by Sandy McKenzie and Jacobs Naval Systems Group! Special thank you to all of our other donators: CACI Technologies, Inc., David Bunch, Cynthia Cornelius, Patty Quijada, Denise Kendall, Cheryl Pelton, and Al & Michele Stonehouse. A special thank you to Denise Kendall for coordinating this successful effort.
SHIELD AMERICA SEMINAR
On April 14, 2011, the Channel Islands Chapter hosted a Security Seminar and NCMS Chapter meeting at CACI Technologies in Oxnard. Guest speaker was Mr. Mario Phillips, Dept. of Homeland Security Investigations who gave a presentation on SHIELD AMERICA - A Partnership to Protect America's Technology.
Shield America is an industry outreach and enforcement initiative to prevent the illegal export of sensitive U.S. strategic technology to terrorists, criminal organization and foreign adversaries. Since WWII, foreign adversaries have acquired large quantities of U.S. and western technology by various means - legal and illegal - which have provided these countries with the fruits of our research and strategic technology largely without cost, while compromising our security and military superiority.
